OUR TRIGGERS ARE A GATEWAY INTO A GREATER KNOWING OF OURSELVES …

Many people don’t know how to find safety within themselves & they continue to outsource their safety by turning to external places, e.g binge eating, spending money, drinking alcohol, smoking, overworking etc.

Something triggers us within our environment, which activates a survival response - which is a combination of physical sensations within the body, thought patterns within the mind and behavioural responses. These automatic, reflexive responses are the bodies attempt to find safety.

We see our reactions of binging, shouting, shutting down, getting anxious, over analysing and everything else as something wrong or bad, when what’s actually happening is your body is responding perfectly.

What often happens however, is that the external place of safety that we automatically go for, for example food, creates a new trigger and the cycle repeats x1000000000.

What we CAN do, is learn to come into connection with these reflexive responses and guide our way back to safety with presence and consciousness and in a way that does not further promote a need to binge, diet and/or change our bodies in anyway.

And that’s exactly what I’m going to be showing you in this upcoming workshop.

This workshop takes you on a journey to embodied safety so you can finally enjoy yourself in summer.

Things that used to trigger me in the summer that I suspect might be triggering you too …

  • Other bodies, more skin - it was a playground for comparison !

  • Trying to buy a swimming costume - ugh !

  • The beach - oh god the beach. Even in all its beauty, it was a terrifying place for me.

  • Airports, holiday, loss of structure and usual routine.

  • Seeing myself on pictures - i used to think I was a hot and sweaty, fat mess.

  • The bread basket at that Greek Taverna. Oh god no.

  • Going on holiday. ‘What the F am I going to wear?’

  • Increased social activities - usually ones that involved food like BBQ’s and picnics.

  • I learnt the language of my body & became aware of the moments when it would tell me that it didn’t feel safe.

  • I built (and continue to build) resources that regulate me and bring me back into connection & safety.

  • I became really close friends with my nervous system and learnt what came before binges and body image spirals so I could create conditions that means I didn’t need to go there.

  • I began to identify my triggers and learnt how to support myself without having to turn to binging and restricting food and trying to change my weight.

  • I learnt how to create conditions for safety when I knew I would be entering situations and environments that were potentially triggering.

  • I expanded my capacity for vulnerability and got really comfortable with big and intense feelings.

  • When my capacity grew, I started to put myself in situations that I’d always dreamed of (like going on a nudist beach, or going to a BBQ without freaking out) and was able to tap into the inner resources and safety I’d been building and experience those moments with total freedom.
